Our Friday evening taster has over 30 people who will be present for a Full Session. Doors open at 600pm, with the session beginning at 630pm.

Our Saturday Introduction has over 20 people who will be together for community, worship, wondering, and nourishment. Doors open at 900am, with session beginning at 930am.

Both of these events are at Scarboro United Church. Please enter through the door on 15th Avenue, the north entrance, the one with the door bell. (Look for a manger!) Parking along the street is okay, and the parking lot is located at the bottom of the hill.

We do ask folks to wear comfortable clothing, as you may be moving around the room and the building. And, feel free to bring your own pillow, to sit upon, for rest, and for comfort in our chairs.

Work time in the full session on Friday includes creative response, which means you are welcome to get as messy as you would like, and if you really LOVE that kind of mess, you may want to consider that in your dress  :)

For Saturday, if your learning includes paper and pens and books, feel free to bring. Handouts for our sessions are included, and scripts for practice are provided. Pens and Bibles are also available. You know what you need to succeed, and we trust you will look after yourself!

Godly Play manuals are not a requirement for either events. If attending Saturday and you wish to bring your Volumes 2, 3, and 4, to use and/or take notes, you are most welcome! If you would like to purchase a set of Volumes 1-4, diana has one set left for sale at 50% off, $46.00 for the 4 books. Brand new, purchased at that price from a bookstore that is no more :(

Confirmation emails for each gathering will be sent Wednesday, so if you have any further questions, they can be responded to on Thursday. Friday is a day of preparing to welcome you all, so any urgent matters, please call diana on her mobile at: 403.975.6579.

We are looking forward to our time together, listening for God, and immersed in joyful community! blessings be ~ Aaron, Ruth, and diana

October Godly Players

 Aaron Navrady: Aaron tells Godly Play stories to the youth of St. David's United Church, Calgary, and is constantly surprised at the depth of theological conversation through the wondering and work. The sacredness of Godly Play has really challenged him to pay attention to the care needed to create the ground to encounter the holy. His love of comics, overall artistic abilities, and continued risk-taking adds to his leadership flair.

Ruth Lumax:
Ruth weaves her Godly Play learnings into her ministry at First United Church, Wetaskiwin. She is constantly amazed at how people change when they come close to this practice, and is committed to building the circle for others to enter. Ruth notices the links between this method and the Christian tradition, sharing her wisdom as she goes. She loves the outdoors, appreciates rest, and wonders about everything!

 diana brecka: diana serves at Scarboro United Church, Calgary, bringing the Godly Play principles into practice with children, youth, families, and other grown-ups! She delights in the worshipful pace of Godly Play, the openness of process for all people, and the creative response space given as work. She loves red licorice, enjoys a good read: be it a book, or a blog, and hears God in the language of silence.

October 2014 Intro: Details

Godly Play
Godly Play is an engaging approach to biblical story and liturgical action. Originally developed for children (3-12 years), this method is now in use with people of all ages and stages all over the world.

Explaining Godly Play is difficult, so we encourage you to experience a full session with others, which is best! As facilitators, we will offer a prayerful and playful atmosphere to do this work together.

A going deeper event, through an Introductory Workshop, will happen from 930am to 400pm on Saturday, October 4, at Scarboro United Church, Calgary. The $100 fee includes everything you need for our day together, and covers all costs incurred. This includes, but not limited to: handouts, stories, a full classroom, workshop supplies, facilitation, space, morning coffee, lunch, and work materials.

We invite you to this discovery approach that honours the power of sacred story, imagination, and Spirit! In the process, we will:

  • pay attention to the unspoken and spoken lessons in your space and practice;
  • learn about ways you (and others) can support the circle of children you serve;
  • hear the language at the heart of Godly Play;
  • practice working with the stories and materials;
  • encounter a Godly Play classroom, materials, and set-up; and
  • build community.
***A schedule of the event will be posted, closer to our time together.
